Let's talk lenses!
I love photography! It has always been a passion of mine, ever since I was a child. I am far from a pro so I continue to learn new things about the art every day! I have several lenses but love the 18-135 mm lens and keep it on my camera most of the time. I find that is meets my everyday photography needs. However, I am always looking to acquire a new lens. I keep hinting to my dh that I would REALLY like a new lens...possible a macro. :) Wonder how good he is at taking hints? lol! Anyway,...I would love to know what your favorite lens is and why. There is a ton of literature out there on lenses but I want to hear from your experience. Anyway, one can never have too many lens, right? :)

ReplyDeleteI'm not too good on cameras.
ReplyDeleteLast Christmas I got a new phone/camera Sony Ericsson cyber shot. I love it. I just have to open the lens and click and I always have it to hand.
AOK TSR
I have a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens. That lens is great; it has strong contrast, good color rendition, and very sharp even when shooting wide open. The best part it is only around $60. For that price you can't beat it. I have read some reviews that is is made cheap and breaks easy but I have not had any problems with its build and I have had it since March and use it ALOT! I think its a must have especially considering the price.
ReplyDeleteI am like Amber. Gonna watch this for the suggestions as well.
ReplyDeleteI have the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 for my D70...mine cost around $100. I bought it because it is reportedly a good "portrait-type" lens for low light situations. My house faces north, so I don't have great light on the front side and the light is harsh coming from the south side. I still feel like I have to use my flash a lot, but I can definitely see a difference in color and sharpness when I use that lens. I have heard that the 50mm f/1.4 is a far better fixed lens choice, but then again it runs $300-$500 for one?/two? extra stops. I couldn't justify it. I will be watching to see what others say. What are the specs on your 18-135mm Gina? Cost?
ReplyDeleteThe specs are f/3.5-5.6. The lens has an image stabilizer in it. I really like that feature. Here is the lens info:

I found it for $409.95 on amazon.com:

I have the same Canon 50mm 1.8 that scrappin_char has and I absolutely love that lens. It is super sharp and it's so inexpensive! Many of my "portrait shots" are taken with this one. I just got the Canon (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=152&modelid=7306)
ReplyDeleteI recently got the EF 70-300 IS USM, but haven't used it much yet.
I'm also going to follow this one. I have the two lenses that came with my camera. I use the 18-55mm most every day, but the zoom is not good enough. My other lense is 75-300 but I have to switch back if I want more in the picture. I'm thinking of finding another one to put on my Christmas list too.
ReplyDeleteI still just have a point and shoot camera...I haven't been brave enough to try anything different!
ReplyDeleteWhen I had a 35mm camera with changeable lens, my favorite was my portrait lens. The digital camera that I own now doesn't change lenses.
