Fall is definitely my favorite season to take photographs! I just love the colors and the fun events - trips to the pumpkin patch, carving jack-o-lanterns, and dressing up for Halloween. Here are a few things to remember when photographing your family this fall:
1. Try to avoid bright sunlight if possible. I know that this is not always easy to do, but try to find a shaded spot to take photos. Here are some examples - the first 2 were taken with lots of direct sunlight.
The 3rd photo was in the shade - overall the color is not as washed out and the kids aren't squinting.
2. Remember to take some action shots. I really love to take portraits and my kids love to pose for me - so I have to remind myself to capture the action too! A couple examples are below.
3. Make the most of the fall colors for gorgeous backgrounds in your photographs! Also remember to take some photos of your surroundings - the mums, scarecrows, bins of apples, and any signs from the place you are visiting. These can be great additions to your layouts. 4. Remember to hand over the camera and get yourself in a couple photos too! Here is a layout using some of my photos from a recent trip to the pumpkin patch. Notice how I used a mix of portraits and action shots, a photo of the entrance sign, and even one of me with my two youngest girls.

That is funny. I fall into the opposite catagory, of almost all action shots and very few portrait types!! I will have to head to our patch in the early am to get softer light, there is not an OUNCE of shade otherwise! Great tips, thanks, Samantha
