Leaving.....on a jet plane!

This is not a typical blog post, in that I have no cool project to show you or technique to share. Nope. Instead you get a sneak peek into my life right now. We are less than T-minus-24 hours from leaving on our once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Walt Disney World! And let me tell you......the Price household is abuzz! This is the first trip to WDW for all of us, so I'm sure you can imagine the excitement level. I just hope and pray that (a) all the pre-planning that my husband and I have done will make this the most memorable (and pleasant) vacation ever; (b) my kids remain healthy; and (c) the weather cooperates. Oh, and that the flight goes smoothly. This will be the first time flying for my children, and my husband and I have not flown for several years (even though he works for the airlines). And why oh why do planes seem to crash more often around the time that I (one who seldom flies) have to board one?

So now that you all know I have Disney on-the-brain, I will come to the scrapbook-related point of my post. Have you seen all the cool Disney scrapbooking products available out there? H-O-L-Y C-O-W! I am amazed! I feel like I just gained access to this exclusive club of people and products that although I knew they existed, I never really had a need for before. And I cannot wait to get started on scrapping our Disney memories!

Immediately, I knew that I wanted to do a mini-album of some sort - for me and probably the grandparents. And I thought to myself, "I wonder if they make an acrylic album in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears?" I probably didn't need to ask that question because after a very brief search, I found 'em:

http://www.qbaroo.com/want2scrap/largeImage.cfm?product=1292

Now how cute is that?!?!?

Or maybe I'll go with the acrylic castle album????? http://www.qbaroo.com/want2scrap/largeImage.cfm?product=1541

There's even links for page and title ideas! (The Scrap Your Trip link was cool). http://www.scrapbooking.lovetoknow.com/Disney_Scrapbook_Ideas

Thankfully, I live close to an Archivers, and they have an entire section devoted to all things Disney. I can see that not only is the trip expensive, but the aftermath will be as well. ;)

I will be sure to post an update on the boards when we get back! But in the meantime, feel free to post about, or provide links to, any of your Disney projects/products/ideas! I can't wait to see them! Peace out! :)

Ribbon Storage for the Ribbon Hoarder

While I love those big, clear, glass jars I've seen on magazines that display ribbon stash so colorfully, my collection is simply way (WAY) beyond the number of jars I can keep in my studio. Well, if you're a serious hoarder like me, and you know who you are, here is a storage solution that has worked for me. It saves space and it lets me see and access my yummy ribbons quite easily.

I use regular photo boxes, nothing fancy, just the types you can usually get on sale or clearance at local craft stores. I have three of these boxes: one for ribbons arranged by brand, one for ribbons arranged in ROYGBIV order, and one to hold fibers and super chunky ones. And in case you're wondering, ROYGBIV (say it like "Roy G. Biv") means red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet order. Why do I have a By Brand box? This box is for my favorites, the one I tote with me when going to crops.

To save space, I remove the ribbons from their spools and wind them around rectangular cardboards and secured with a sewing pin. To help keep it in place, it helps if the length of the cardboard is the same as the width of the inside of the box. The height of the cardboard should be about 1/2" less than the height of the inside of the box to leave room for the added height of the wound ribbons.

For my smaller ribbons like leftovers or the ones that come in kits, usually under 12", I use a floss caddy with the ribbons wound on plastic floss bobbins and again, secured with pins. This is usually the box I pull out when making cards, to make sure I use these up first.

This ribbon storage system has worked for me for a couple of years now. Come scrap time, I just put the boxes out with the lids off so I can easily scan for that perfect touch of ribbon or fiber. And when I'm done, lids go back on to protect from dust and then the boxes are stacked on a shelf.

PS - If you have A LOT of ribbons still in spools, do the winding on cardboard while you watch TV and you won't even notice how productive and more organized you're becoming. Happy winding :)

Easy and Pocket Friendly

I made these baskets for the kids teachers for Valentine's Day this year. They were both easy and pocket friendly. Here is the breakdown.

Basket purchased for ($1.28) from Old Time Pottery
1/2 bag of shredded red paper from Target's gift wrapping section ($0.50)
Bag of Dove milk Chocolates ($3.49)
Ribbon used from my stash
White cardstock that I punched into a scalloped circle shape - both from my stash
Red and Black Ink from my stash
Super Cute Stamp from The ScrapRoom

The teacher's loved them, and really who can resist those Dove Chocolates??!!!

Don't forget TSR's Exclusive Stamp add on club is only $6.00. These stamps are perfect for scrapbooking, card making, and gift tags. The possibilities are endless.

Valentine's gift

Really this could be a gift for any occasion. When I do these I tend to keep them on the simple side that way they never go out of style. It is really simple and inexpensive to make. I usually pick up a few multi photo frames when I see them on sale and save them for this purpose.
The instructions are very easy my frame had all 4x6 pictures and I just altered 2 4x6blocks of cardstock for the extra two spaces.
Enjoy and Happy Valentine's Day!

Distressing Paint

Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint is my latest obsession! There…I said it and I feel much better now! ☺

Applying crackle paint is one of those techniques that once you try it, you crave for more! Suddenly, you want to crackle paint the world! The best part about this technique is that it is so easy to apply. It is a simple, one step process that gives your projects an immediate aged feel. It has a built-in brush, which makes for no brush clean up at all. ☺ The paint dries super fast and literally cracks as it dries. The thicker you apply the paint, the deeper the cracks. I have used this process on chipboard, cardstock and Grungeboard and love it's immediate transformation.

Here is an idea of what it looks like once it is applied…

Chipboard:

Grungeboard:

Cardstock:

This product is under $5 and coordinated with the Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Embossing Powders.   Now, grab yourself a bottle and go play! ☺

School Valentine's

Wow! Valentine's Day is almost upon us. Can you believe it is a week from today?!? Anyway, each year I have always just spent the money and bought the kids Valentine's to fill out for school. Well, this year in an effort to save a few bucks and use up some supplies I already have at home I am making the girls Valentine's for school. They are super easy and I get to play with paper, so what is more fun than that I ask.

They are about 3x4 1/2 and I stamped a cute little creature and the sentiment added some ribbon and a sucker and then let my daughter take care of the rest. So if you still need to get those Valentine's together for school just pull out some paper and stamps and you and the kids can spend some great time creating some fun Valentine's.

Smiles,
Angela

2009 Year in Review Album

Hello - I can't believe that we are already in the second month of 2009! I am finishing up my January Month in Review layout, using the Feb Basic Grey kit. It will be available on the message board as a recipe layout to download, with the password provided in the kit. If you are not familiar with this project, it is simply a two-page layout completed each month with one of the Scrap-Room page kits. I use this album to highlight the events of the month and as a place for some of my favorite photos that might not make it in a scrapbook otherwise. I do not scrap in any order, but this album helps me to feel like I am up-to-date and capturing our everyday family life. This year I created a title page for the album, using some of the papers from the January kit.
I hope that you can join me in creating your own Year in Review album for 2009! :) Brenda
