It's that time of year......

Springtime is such a busy, but enjoyable, time of year for most of us. We're opening up the windows again, cleaning out the closets, getting rid of the old - all the stuff that goes with sprucing up the inside and outside of our homes after a long winter. But for me, Spring also means RETREAT! For the last couple of years, a group of us have gotten together every April for an extended weekend of scrappin' and pampering!

This year was a bit different though. I went with a different group of ladies to a totally different retreat location. Aside from the fact that I missed out on over 30 hours of prime scrappin' time due to an unexpected illness, I still managed to salvage about 24 hours of the retreat.

I love retreats! If you can find a good-sized, friendly group to go with, retreats can be affordable, relaxing, inspiring and a ton of fun! We each volunteer to take on a meal (which keeps the cost of food down) and then bring our own beverages to drink and smaller snack items to share. I don't generally travel far from home (45 minutes to an hour) and I carpool, which keeps the cost of gas down as well.

I've never been to a retreat that offered this, but have heard of personal massages offered for a fee (doesn't that sound wonderful?). We even discussed how nice it would be to have someone available to do pedicures. One of the ladies mentioned a retreat that had a personal chef come in and cook gourmet meals for them. Now that's being pampered! At all of the retreats I've been to, there seems to be a bit of a contest on who can get the most pages done. Sadly, I'm never in contention there, but I'm sure many of you TSR gals would snag that top spot! At last years' retreat, we had a "mascot" of sorts, a singing/dancing little alien troll doll, that we pressed everytime a layout was completed. By the early morning hours, we were all getting a bit roudy with that one. But it's all good, clean fun!

So that's my little PSA about scrapbook retreats. If you've ever wondered about them, see if you can find one in your area, gather up your girlfriends, and make the phone call. It's a great Springtime tradition! An added bonus is that Tammy has done half the prep work for you! Bring a few months worth of TSR kits along, some photos, and you are guaranteed to turn out a ton of stunning pages!

Spring is HERE

Finally after many months of waiting SPriNG is HERE. I don't know about you but I always find this time to be the most inspirational time of the entire year. From the blossoms, to the sprouts of green grass, beauty is all around us. So get outside and enjoy the world around you, and don't forget your camera.

Blessings,
Shawnna

Hi everyone

It's my turn to blog. I had a topic all picked out and everything but life is so crazy I haven't had a chance to work on it. I will save it for next month. I started school again and we are in the middle of packing for moving in less than 2 weeks just a local move but still it is a ton of work. So since I was packing up scrap supplies I thought it would be fun to have a little give away. In keeping with a scrap theme post a Spring topic you have scrapped about or hope to scrap about soon. I will randomly pick 2 people to send a small goodie box out to. You have untill the end of the month to post. I will come back on May 1 and add the winners.
Take care
Shannon

Using Book Pages on Your Projects

Last month I had this obsession but for today, my obsession is a bit different but just as exciting! :) I am now officially addicted to book pages. I have been using them quite a bit lately. They are so versatile and neutral...can be inked or painted...crinkled or flat and used on just about any craft project. Basically...your options are endless. :)

Layouts:

Cards:

Art Journal Cards:

Best yet...it is a super cheat embellishment that will last you a lifetime. I purchased an old, used book with 500 pages from my local library for just $1.00. Can't get much better that that! :)

Coloring a Stamped image with Goo Gone

The technique I am gonna share with you today is very easy. Lately I have been all about using things I have on hand and this technique was great.

You will need:
~Goo Gone
~your favorite stamp
~ink
~wax based colored pencils (in your choice of colors)
~blending stump
~white cardstock
~sandpaper

1. Stamp your image on white cardstock using the ink you chose.

2. Outline the corner of your stamped image with your colored pencil. Make sure you use pressure and get a good amount of color. Always start with the lighter colors first.
The bigger the stamp the more of the stamp you will need to outline. With this stamp I ended up outlining all the way around the edge.

3. Soak the tip of your blending stump in the Goo Gone and begin using circular motions to blend the color into the colorless area of your image. You will need to redip your blending stump into the Goo Gone when you feel it dragging.

When you are finished blending the colored pencils add your own flare to the image. Here I used some dew drops and then added my stamped images to a piece of cardstock.

A couple tips:

~Use the sandpaper to sharpen the tip of your blending stump.
~Try using a different blending stump for each colored pencil.

When you are finished feel free to share a link to your creation in the comments section.

Smiles,
Angela
