What's In Store? Game Day Chili

Have you seen the Jillibean Soup Game Day Chili collection pack HERE in the TSR store? Such awesome colors and patterns for your biggest sports enthusiast or any of your more masculine layouts.  How about a couple of projects?

 Team Bolyer

Even though these pictures aren't any of your traditional sports pictures, they still work with the fun colors and masculine theme of the collection.

MVP Card

How about this fun three-dimensional card for a kids' birthday or a coach's thank-you card?  Super easy, too.  Simply layer some of the great die cuts with some paper loops and then more die cuts.  Finish off with a button, a die cut tag, and some notched paper strips.

DT Inspiration: Easy Cards to Make

When I first saw the Dear Lizzy paper: Dreamy Days...I knew I would make some quick, but cute cards! It just screams to cut it apart...so I did :)

Here are the three cards I created using this month's kit.

Hint, hint, hint: A little bundle of these cards tied with ribbon would make a great Mother's day gift for your mom!

Here are directions to create your own:

1. Cut out (1) polaroid image from Dear Lizzy: Dreamy Days Paper.

2. Cut out (1) 4"x 12" strip of pattern paper (this will be the front of card)

3. Cut (1) 4"x 9.25" strip from the pattern paper you just cut.

4. You now have (1) 4"x 9.25" and (1) 4" x 2.75" strips

5. Mount polaroid image on 4"x 2.75" pattern paper as shown

6. Wrap twine around bottom of pattern paper. (Yes, you will have to use some of your twine stash. No worries because Tammy has more in the TSR shop). Add button and twine bow.

7. Fold 4"x9.25" pattern paper in half to create card base.

8. Adhere mounted polaroid to card base as shown.

9. Ink edges, stamp sentiment, add a bit of bling, or chipboard piece to card if desired.

Now I'm off to create more of these cards with my extra polaroid pieces. Be sure to post your cards in the TSR gallery!

Thanks!
Melanie

DT Inspiration: Wall Hanging

Hey everybody! I guess I'm on an altered home decor kick, because I have another project to share with you today. :)

Last weekend, I decided to repaint my hallway. After I repainted it, I decided I needed to "spruce" it up a notch with some new decorations. So, I bought some 4"x4" square wooden plaques (from Hobby Lobby - only 2 for $1!) and got to work:

1. First, I painted the edges of my wooden squares with a foam brush and black paint.
2. Next, I cut coordinating squares of leftover scrapbook papers down to fit on top of the squares. I Mod Podged those to the wood, and after they dried, I added another layer of Mod Podge over the top to "seal" the paper to the wood.
3. I then added chipboard letters to the top of the squares (I hot glued them on to make sure they stayed put).
4. Last, I stapled some 3" wide ribbon to the backs of the squares, cut a "V" on the bottom of the ribbon strip to make it look like a banner, and added a ring at the top to hang it with. Voila! DONE!

Sooo easy, sooo inexpensive! I've got a friend who really loved it and has commissioned me to make her one that says "Love." I will also be making some of these wall banners up to sell at a local craft show in a couple of weeks. :)

I've said it before, but I really love using up scrapbook supplies to freshen my home a bit. It's kinda like killing 2 birds with 1 stone...you use up supplies, AND you get a fun new project in the process. Win-win.

I hope you are inspired to make some projects for your own home, and we'd love for you to link your projects here on our blog! :)

April Scraplift Challenge

Happy Saturday Everyone! I just walked in from our two youngest boys' middle school track meet, we're slamming down some lunch and heading back out for our oldest boys' track meet this afternoon. Ah, spring is fully underway in our neck of the woods! I have just enough time to issue our second ScrapRoom challenge for April - the SCRAPLIFT CHALLENGE! This is honestly one of my favorite challenges. I love to see how you all are inspired by our amazing Design Team!

So, for this challenge, you will need to choose a layout from our APRIL IDEA GALLERY create a page that is inspired by it, and submit your layout in our challenge via our Mr. Linky link below. We'll choose a winner for a $10.00 ScrapRoom Gift Certificate next month. You've got until April 30th to post your entry (or entries)!

I took 30 minutes yesterday and created a "scraplifted" layout of my own to kick off the challenge this month.

I was inspired by this layout by Aphra using the My Mind's Eye "Be Amazing" layout kit (love the way she cut out the hexagons and positioned everything for her one-photo layout):

And, here is my version (a total scraplift - but it's okay to do a total scraplift in a scraplift challenge, right?) :) My version is 8x8, and I'm so tickled with it that you'd think I came up with it all on my own. :)

So, let's see your take on what our Design Team has done with the kits this month. Your scraplifted page can be loose or more-exact - whatever makes you happy!

And, the winner from our March Scraplift Challenge is jojojorenee! Please e-mail me at admin@scrap-room.com with your real life name and e-mail address, and I'll get your $10.00 Gift Certificate e-mailed out to you! Here is jojorenee's layout:

A special thanks to everyone who participated in our March challenge! Now, grab some photos and your favorite new scrappin' supplies and enter our April Scraplift Challenge!

DT Inspiration: Layered Flowers

Hello my scrappy friends!  Today I want to share my quick, easy method for creating the layered flowers on this card for the April gallery.

Wonderful Card

Each flower consists of a 2", 1.5", and 1" circle that has been distressed and then stacked.  I used a dimensional glue dot to layer them together.  It helps add a little more, well, dimension.  Here's an overhead view.

For the leaves, I just cut them out free form and then trimmed until I liked the shape.  The edges are chalked for some definition.  And then for the finishing touch, a button with a twine bow tied onto the back side.  Another glue dot and you're finished.

Easy, right?  Here are some more variations on this same idea.

Here, instead of using my circle cutter, I cut the circles free form.  The curvier, the better.  These are chalked instead of distressed.  Oh, and only two layers.  More buttons and bows.

This one is the same basic idea.  I cut four flowers on my Cricut, each one a quarter-inch smaller in size.  Instead of a button, though, I used a cabochon.

For this one, I used three different sized scalloped circle punches, a fabric flower, a brad, twine bow, and an itty bitty tag for the sentiment.  To give the flower a lot of texture, I crumpled each circle before layering them together.

Ok, last one, promise.  Anyhoo, for this one, I cut a 1" x 12" piece of paper, pleated it (by scrunching it), and then adhered it to the back of two jute circles.  In addition to the button and leaves, I added a couple of stick pins with a tag.

As you can see, you can create many different flowers by just varying the size and style of your circles, centers, and embellishments.  Hope you'll give this a try!
