Weekend Inspiration: December Sketch

This month's sketch comes to you from Becky Fleck at www.pagemaps.com. I love the simplicity of the sketch, which allows you to showcase photos and fun elements together in the center of the page.

You've been inspired by these two layouts already this week, but did you know that both layouts were inspired by this month's sketch? Why not take 30 minutes and create your own interpretation of this sketch. I'd love to see your layouts, so please post the layout or a link to the layout in the comments section below.

Layout of the Day!

Today's inspiration comes from TSR designer, Brenda Ragsdale, and features the Gossamer Blue Get Happy layout kit in the December Flavors of the Month Kit and the December Embellishment Kit. This paper line offers a different take on a traditional Christmas layout - and also gives you the option to create a completely non-Christmas-themed page, if you prefer.

Project Life: Mixed Up Title

Hi everyone.  Today, I wanted to share with you another title card tip.  You may have seen the full layout in the gallery.  If not, here it is again.

As you can see, the pictures are not exactly Christmas pictures.  Instead, they focus on how my two boys spent their time during their break from school.  The colors in the pictures were not quite Christmasy either, so I chose cards that had a white background to them.  This made the page seem a little less busy.

For my title card above, I grabbed all of the black Thickers in my stash.  Mostly because I wasn't sure if I had any s's or t's left in any of them.  While all the letters were sitting there, I had the idea to create the title out of a mixture of different fonts.  Since the papers are a bit whimsical, the letters fit right in.  I think the fact that all the letters were black helped, too.

I also wanted to point out a tip for using the Simple Stories 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 cards from the kit.  I cut one down to use as the striped border pieces on my journal cards.  Another I trimmed down to create a banner to attach to a picture.

Well, that's all I have for today.  I hope you are enjoying your kit and your holidays!

December Kit Shipping Update

I wanted to give everyone a heads up, that due to circumstances beyond our control, the kits are shipping out a couple of days late this month. Our most recent cardstock order, which was placed well before Thanksgiving and finalized only after I confirmed that everything was in stock and available to ship, did not ship complete. The white cardstock (which is in three of our kits this month) was not included in the original shipment. I was told that it would be shipping separately right after the original shipment went out, but in fact, it did not ship until this past Friday. The white cardstock is scheduled to be delivered no later than Wednesday, and as soon as I get it, I will finish assembling the kits and get your packages shipped right out to you. I will be burning the midnight oil to have all of the kits shipped out the day after I receive the cardstock.

I know this is probably more details than you're interested in, but I did want to keep you all in the loop about the extenuating circumstances this month, so you're not worried when your kits arrive a couple of days later than normal this month. In spite of the cardstock delay, I think that most of you will still have your kits before the weekend!

A little "Sketchy" Inspiration

It is snowing hard today in Northern Illinois. We're looking at 5 inches of solid stick-to-the-ground shovel-the-driveway kind of snow, and it's blowing and drifting too, which is super-fun! This is the kind of day that makes a gal want to hunker down and scrapbook a few favorite photos. Today's inspiration makes is easy - print off the sketch, grab some of your fave photos and one of your November layout kits and make a page (while sipping on a lovely mug of hot chocolate, of course)!

Welcome Guest Designer, Kara Allen

Meet our 4th Quarter's Guest Designer, Kara Allen. She is a long-time member of The ScrapRoom (since almost the beginning), and she is joining us through the end of the year as a Guest Designer. What a delight she has been to work with!

How long have you been scrapbooking and how/why did you get started?
I have been scrapbooking for such a long time now.  My mother-in-law introduced me to it in 2000 and my husband said I could buy all the paper I wanted for our first anniversary (the paper anniversary).  He had no idea what he agreed to.  My first album was our wedding/honeymoon and I used mostly Creative Memories products and styles.  I moved on from that style pretty quickly.

Describe your scrapbooking style.
My style is pretty simple.  I mostly add a few papers as embellishments to my pictures with clean lines.  Sometimes I try to add a little more pizazz, but that is getting out of my comfort zone and it really takes me a long time to decide what I like.  A lot of times, I end up taking off some of the extra stuff.

Favorite manufacturers and why?
I've loved Fancy Pants, Basic Grey, WRMK and Crate Paper over the years.  It seems like whatever I do with those lines work no matter what I try and I really love the shabby look.

Which scrapbook page designers do you admire or who influence your style?
Ali Edwards is someone I always admired, but outside of the idea gallery here, I don't follow anyone these days.

Which scrapbooking and/or crafty blogs do you follow?
I rely on The ScrapRoom’s idea gallery as a primary source of inspiration.  I've collected so many supplies over the years that I really try to limit myself to this kit each month. Seeing how the design team has worked with the lines is exciting to me.  I will browse on Two Peas in a Bucket from time to time.

Any other tidbits our members want to know?
I've been a member of The ScrapRoom since 2005 and look forward to getting my kit every month. It is still one of the highlights of my month to open up my present and see what good stuff I get to work with.  I listen to book on audio and my favorite 'me time' activity is an evening scrapping and losing myself in a good story.

Share a few of your favorite layouts and why.
As I was looking through my layouts to find some I favorites, I was drawn to a time when my kids were little and I hadn't gone back to work yet.  That was a fun time in my life and the kids were so sweet and full of energy (they still are). I like these layouts because they make me feel good when I look at them and I like the embellishments too.

Project Life Inspiration: November Sketch and Flair Ideas

Hi friends.  I'm back today with another Project Life sketch.  This one was inspired by all the cute Simple Stories Sweater Weather Die Cuts that came in the November Flavors of the Month kit.  They allowed me to add some fun layers to my Thanksgiving layout title card.  I thought this same idea would work well in Spring with a little birdhouse.  Or for a camping layout.

This one card was my favorite for the whole month of November.  The houndstooth, the warm colors, the enamel dots, and the exclusive flair.  SO cute!

Speaking of flair, I thought I would also share a few ways that you can add Tammy's awesome flair to your Project Life pages.

This is the first time I used flair in my Project Life album.  I really didn't like how the height of the flair made my page pucker, so I smushed it.  Then, I didn't like how the flair looked. LOL One of our former TSR Designers shared her tip:  put the flair on the outside of the page protector.  Smart.  Now I can use all the flair I want.

So, what is your favorite way to use flair?  I'd love to hear.

Project Life Inspiration

Yesterday we looked at a traditional scrapbook layout using the Simple Stories Sweater Weather layout kit in our November Flavors of the Month Kit. Today's inspiration is a lovely Sweater Weather layout in the popular Project Life pocket-scrapbooking-style. Our Project Life layout designer, Aphra Bolyer, used the Sweater Weather cards in our November Project Life Kit, coupled together with a few embellishments from our November Flavors of the Month Kit, to create this beautiful fall layout.

Our monthly Project Life Kit features four different product lines and is PACKED FULL of pocket page cards and embellishments for your Project Life pages. Check it out. I don't think you'll find any other pocket scrapbooking kit out there that will give you more scrapbooking goodies for $17.99! In terms of variety and price, it's the absolute best deal on the internet!

Weekend Inspiration!

Here's a little inspiration to take you into the weekend. Brenda Ragsdale created this striking layout with our Gossamer Blue One My Desk Kit in the November Flavors of the Month Kit. She added some extra die-cuts and enamel stars (November Embellishment Kit) and a bright and shiny gold alpha (September Embellishment) for the finishing touches. While you wait for your kits to arrive, print out a favorite photo so you're ready to re-create this layout as soon as your kits land on your doorstep.
