Daily Inspiration: Layout of the Day! "Month in Review"

Did you know that each month, The ScrapRoom, provides a "Month in Review" layout created by one of the lines from the Flavor of the Month kit?  When you subscribe to the kits, you will receive the step by step instructions to complete them with your kit.  These double page layouts are always a fabulous way to recap your favorite photos of the month, photos that recapture the people and events for the snapshot of one month in time.

The ScrapRoom designer, Brenda Ragsdale, created the above two-page spread with September 2015's FOTM BasicGrey B-Side.

FREAKY FAST FRIDAY!!!

Welcome to our second installment of FREAKY FAST FRIDAY!!!

Did you enjoy it last week? Will you try it? Are you looking forward to next month's? Did you miss last weeks and don't even know what I'm talking about? happy Then, check back at last weeks post, Bringin' Back the Freaky! or just read on.

Here's the concept.  Sometimes, scrapbooking can be overwhelming...too many photographs, so many supplies, tools and techniques.

Where do you begin?
May I suggest FREAKY FAST Formulas!
We are bringing back a challenge that was run at The ScrapRoom a few years back.  Here's how it works.  Each month, we will introduce a basic formula to use to get a page done.   They will be simple instructions to choose a base paper to start your page along with instructions to cut pattern papers to complete a page. It's that easy!! Tammy's kits are perfect too,...just grab a bag and you're ready to go!
Without further adieu.....The September 2015 Freaky Fast formula...
1. Cardstock or subtle patterned paper background
2. 5 inch square patterned paper
3. 3 1/4 x5 patterned paper
4. 1 1/4 X 12 patterned paper
My layout has three large photos.  But, you may choose however many that you want to fit your wishes.
And here are the simple steps to completing the layout using the formula...
1. Collect pictures.
2. Cut your patterned paper to the dimensions stated above.
3. Push the paper around your cardstock till you achieve the look you want, or simply lift one of the layouts below!
4. Adhere and EMBELLISH! It is that easy!!

Each month, we will introduce a new formula.  On each, or most, Friday's following up to the next months Sneak Peeks, we will use that month's formula to show you a page by one of our designers.

Brenda Ragsdale created a fantastic layout with the Basic Grey Barista line from the September 2015 DoubleShot kit.

To recap last week, we showed you two very different results from the formula.  Heather Robertson's layout took on a graphic look using the Echo Park Paper Wild Life line from the September 2015 Flavor of the Month kit.

My layout took on a traditional look using Crate Paper Wonder from the September 2015 Flavor of the Month kit.

What will yours look like?

Daily Inspiration: Layout of the Day!

Rochelle's creative Jillibean Soup Sew Happy layout, featured today, is from the September 2015 Doubleshot Kit. The blue flowered paper from one of her wide banner strips. was a favorite of mine and is on the backside of the red paper that you see from the kits photograph.  Rochelle's artful usage of many of the very large assortment of die cuts that come with the kit are beautifully cascaded and layered.   The die cuts package includes words, hearts, arrows, crafting elements, a few tags and flowers. I love the touch of disorderly threads.

Project Life Inspiration: Stickers

The ScrapRoom's Project Life kits often come with a variety of stickers. This month is no exception. There are FOUR sets of stickers. And that is in addition to some other great embellishments. For me, having so many stickers makes my Project Life pages come together super fast. Today I'd like to show you a few ways that I use stickers on my pages.

Weekend Camp Memories

First, I cut apart one sticker and added it to my title card. The small word stickers are great for titles and subtitles.

For my yellow filler card, I covered up what was actually printed on the card stickers. Super quick and easy.

You'll also notice that many of my pictures have stickers on them. I placed them directly onto the photos, but you can also place them on the sheet protectors. I especially like how the CAMP banner stickers in the second photo add some much needed color to the photo.

As you can see, small stickers really can add a lot of impact and color to your Project Life pages as well as unify your theme. Just another way that TSR kits help us "Get more pages done."

Heather's Tips: Getting Creative with Twine

Getting Creative with Twine
I don’t know about you but I have so many rolls of twine that I don’t ever think I’ll be able to use it up.  So, I’m often trying to think up ways to add it to my pages. It’s actually very versatile and there are so many colors and styles now available.

Here are some suggestions
  1. Thread it through a button
  2. Make a bow
  3. Wrap it around a photo
  4. Cover a chipboard shape or letter
  5. Crochet an embellishment
  6. Stitch
  7. Create a border
  8. Create a shape
  9. Create swirls on your page
  10. Make a rough circle and place under embellishments or photo
  11. Form into a word
  12. Embellish an embellishment (like a tail for a kite)
  13. Weave it
  14. Hang photos or banners from it
  15. Make a frame
  16. Make a sunburst design with it
  17. create pompom or loopy flowers
  18. Create a lattice pocket and add tickets etc.
  19. Use as journaling lines
  20. Create a tassel

Here are a few examples
For this bike layout  I created spokes for a wheel

here I created a banner shape and threaded on some buttons for interest

For this Christmas page I created a giant star and hung photos and embellishments from it

On this page I created a frame around a photo and also added some border interest

Have you done anything innovative with twine ?  Add a comment and let us know.

Bringin' Back the Freaky!

Happy Friday! I hope that you are gearing up for the weekend, and, that you are going to be able to get some scrapping done this weekend.  Want some help?

FREAKY FAST FRIDAY!!! ...to the rescue!
Here's the concept.  Sometimes, scrapbooking can be overwhelming...too many photographs, so many supplies, tools and techniques.
Where do you begin?
May I suggest FREAKY FAST Formulas!
Starting NOW, we are bringing back a challenge that was run at The ScrapRoom a few years back.

On Fridays leading up to the next months Sneak Peeks, we will use that month's formula to show you a page by one of our designers.  Today, since this is our first installment, we have two Freaky Fast pages to share with you.  The first is from Heather Robertson.  She used the Echo Park Paper Wild Life line from the September 2015 Flavor of the Month kit.

I created the second layout using our September 2015 Freaky Fast Formula. It was created with Crate Paper Wonder from the September 2015 Flavor of the Month kit.  I loved the kitty die cuts but wasn't sure how to use them until I remembered a few photographs that I had from our Arizona trip when my boys were given an opportunity to feed a tiger. I love the "Keep Calm" images, and used my computers' basic Paint program to edit one that I found online for the occasion. The red paper with the littles x's that I used as my base is the backside of Crate Paper Wonder Bright, (the sheet displayed in the FOTM with the fun words).  The fork and spoon came from the 3/2015 Cafe Club FOTM Kit.

Next week, we will show you what Brenda Ragsdale did with the formula.  You will see another very different result!  So, lift one of these if you want to, but don't be limited by them.  Happy Scrapping!

Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to stop by next Friday for another layout using the same formula!

Daily Inspiration: Layout of the Day!

Featuring Rochelle Spears' stunning page from the WRMK Wildflower line.  It is part of the September 2015 Flavor of the Month Kit. The gold foil words came with her kit.  Her gorgeous flowers were fancy cut and colored from the backside of Road Trip, (the sheet with diagonal stripes).

The Story Behind the Page: Janine

It was a great day for a walk around the community of Lake Naomi when Jason and I headed out.  It was early and the temperatures were perfect.  My five year old and his dad stayed at the cabin, relaxing and getting ready for the day.

When we returned, no one was in sight.  Jason and I were looking around inside when we heard an unfamiliar voice.  It said, "Hello Jason, how are you? I'm Buck....." How odd.  Then, we heard singing. Befuddled, we were looking around when the singing stopped and the voice returned.  It told us to look up on the wall.  Lo and behold, the faux taxidermy deer head's mouth was moving to the words that we heard.  That is how we met Buck.

As to my husband and Kurt, they had their own story about how they discovered the controls to Buck, and began their experimenting. Our family enjoyed the silliness, taking turns being Buck. It all ended in a big laugh and amusing stories to remember from our rental cabin in the woods.  Thus, the Tale of Buck and the Blue Deer House.

*Need ideas? Each month our customers receive exclusive access to four Recipe Cards, complete with a full-color photo and step-by-step instructions for completing two 12x12 scrapbook pages with each of the four layout kits. (This layout is featured as one of the Recipe Cards for September 2015)

Daily Inspiration: Layout of the Day!

Guest Designer, Heather, created a Crate Paper Wonder layout using the backside of the "My Dear" sheet as her main background. My Dear is one of those sheets that can cause some difficult decision making as it is the one with the pink and yellow diamonds on the front-side in the The ScrapRoom September 2015 Flavor of the Month Kit image.

The corrugated cardboard image creates a great backdrop to all of her wonderful layers and adorable cluster, don't cha think?
