The End of the School Year is Coming!

If you're like me, the end of the school year is an incredibly busy time! And (if you're like me) you struggle with gift ideas for those wonderful teachers. I always go into this time of year thinking that I want something nice for each teacher, but not too expensive, and at the same time I want something that the recipient will find useful and can feel my appreciation through the gift. That's a pretty tall order!

This year, our school district is closing early (to prepare for the opening of a brand new high school next fall and transitioning/repurposing the other schools) which means I only have until May 28th to get my stuff together! Yikes!

So I thought it might be fun to share with you some of the gifts that I have given/made in the past. My hope is that maybe you'll find an idea that you like and can use this year, without having to reinvent the wheel, so-to-speak. I thought it would also be fun for you to share your gift ideas in the comments section (with links if you can!).

A couple years ago, I gave each teacher a perennial plant (I went with daylillies, since they are popular and easy to care for). I included a tag with each that I mounted on a plant stick. It was well-received.

At Christmas one year, I gave each teacher a decorated bandaid tin. I stuffed the inside with paper raffia to match and put a gift card inside. I also included a small ornament (that I bought in a pack) on the outside. I included this gift idea because it was so much fun to make (and quick too), the teachers loved them, and you can use the idea any time of the year, just change the papers!

Last year, I went with a theme of relaxation. I figure every teacher needs the R&R during the summer months. So I found some great summer drink recipes online (I included a few alcoholic ones as well) and found these cute pitchers, napkins and festive straws at Target. I used digital papers to dress up the recipe cards and bound them together with a binder clip and ribbons. I included a gift card to a local salon that they could use to put towards a service of their choice (i.e. pedicure, manicure, massage, etc.)

And finally, last Christmas I made these little boxes filled with chocolate candies and attached a cute little ornament. I'm sure if you search online you can find a free box template out there. I know I paid a minimal fee for this template from a Stampin' Up rep and it has come in handy many times. This is another idea that can be used any time of year by changing out the papers and the contents of the box.

This year, since I'm struggling with time management issues, I need to find a fast project. So far, I've found these cute leather bookmarks. I also found a stamp that says "Thank You for being my teacher" that I will stamp on the bookmark using StazOn and I will include a small photo of my child. The teacher can change out the photo whenever they want. I found the bookmarks at A's for $1.99 each! And I'm thinking of giving them gift cards to a local teacher supply store.

With each gift I like to write a special thank you to each teacher, something personal and from-the-heart.....particularly for my middle daughter's teachers. As many of you know, I have a daughter with special needs/autism, so I have a lot of contact with her teachers, assistants, para and therapists. All total, we have seven very wonderful women to thank for just Madelyn alone! It truly does take a village to raise a child! So thank those special teachers in your life and have fun with your projects!

Randomness

Randomness....

Is that even a word? I'm not sure but let's hope so because that is what this blog post is all about. I love to use random items on my scrapbook pages. I'm not always concerned if the item may/may not be archival safe. I just spray it with some archival mist and attach it to my page. Take this page for example, it is filled to the brim with RANDOMNESS. I especially love the tags and the souvenir I picked up from Shogun's. Not sure what you would call it but it is kind of like a drink umbrella, only it isn't an umbrella. What are some random items you have used on a scrapbook page?

End of the school year

Hi everyone

A little bit of house cleaning first. I updated my last post with winners so check it out and email me your address if you won so I can send off a prize.

For those of us with kids the school year is coming to a close. I thought it would be fun to list a few of my favorite end of the year pages and have you share yours. One of my favorite things to do is a before/after page. Most of us take the traditional first day pics but I like to a week or so before the kids get out ( I try not to wait till the last day b/c it usually is a crazy one for the teachers) take a picture of each child and their teacher for that year. I've even been known to ask the teacher to write a short note to include on the page when I scrap this. I find my kids love looking back a few years later and seeing what their teacher had to say about them. There are also end of the year festivities, most schools have a field day or mini-Olympics of some sort. So get out those cameras and catch some of the end of the year madness.

This one those of you without kids could easily do as well. I love to make a 1 page ,usually just an 8.5 x 11 size, with a list about what we hope to do this summer. I list all the places I, my husband (and kids if you have them) really want to go and then as we check them off the list I make a collage pagee next to the list page with just 1 pic from the event and a picture of the family member who picked it. I've had the kids write their list so I have a copy in their writing. I find this is a great way to make/record memories.

So what do you like to scrap this time of year?
Have a great one.

Decorative Border Punches

I am beginning to see a trend here! I went from a stitching obsession to book pages and now...decorative border punches! I don't have many punches but I have to say...this one is a must! It is called Threading Water by Fiskars.

I am not big on investing in scrapbooking tools, especially the trendy and expensive ones that become obsolete and make for good dust collectors. I like to think I am a bit conservative when it comes to this.  However, the border punch is an inexpensive investment that will be used over and over again for sure. And for under $15, is won't break the bank compared to some of the other tools that are out there. A punch like this one gives a small detail that can change the whole feel of your card or layout! A must try for sure! :)  Happy scrapbooking!

All About Mom

Can you believe Mother's Day is on Sunday?!?

Since this year I have been all about using what I have and going a little Eco Friendly I decided to make all those special Mom's in my life something that I know they will love while making a dent in my stash. If you didn't have time to go out and buy something or ran out of time to make something for your Mom this is fun and is sure to put a smile on her face.

It is made using one of my favorite things, Starbucks Frapuccino's. I altered the carton and all the little jars and put some chocolates in this one, but you can put whatever your Mom likes (ie. chocolates, drink mixes, other candies, bath stuff, craft supplies) to make it special for her.

If you take the time to make one I sure hope you come back here and leave a comment so we can check it out. :) Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful ladies.

Smiles,
Angela
