Listen To Your Kit

Well, look at it anyway.  Take a good look - it might just inspire you to try something different than you had planned!

The August Doubleshot kit had a few elements in it that really grabbed me.

Now, I have a weakness... call it a fondness... for office supplies.  And when I saw this rolodex card chipboard sticker in the American Crafts Mayberry kit, my whole layout just spun out from this:

I cut paper to look like a file folder and added in paper clips, staples, tabs, and stacks of paper - I wanted this page to look like a work in progress, a pile of papers and pictures that had been tucked away in a folder and was just rediscovered.

When I was down to just scraps left of Fancy Pants Wonderful Day, I wanted to make a few cards.  And since this kit was full of arrows of all kinds... I decided to just go with the arrow theme and had a lot of fun with these gift cards!  The base cut is a Silhouette pattern and it didn't take much to finish them off.  A heart, some twine, and a few more arrows and I was done in an instant.

Sometimes it really is easier and faster to get more pages (and cards!) done if you don't think about it too hard.  Just listen to your kit.  You'll love where you end up!

Melanie Uses That Ruler!

Wow...it's almost back to school time! One school supply that I use for scrapbooking is the ruler. I love my clear 12 inch ruler (having it clear is a must for me). I use it for aligning photos, papers, and definitely my alphas. Here's how I like to make my titles....

1. Align alphabet stickers along top edge of ruler.

2. Place ruler over your layout. This allows you the flexibility of arranging your title without actually adhering it yet.

3.  Once you have it where you like it...simply press down on the top of your alphabet and then gently remove your ruler. Yay...it's straight and exactly where you want it.

School supplies are for grown ups too :)

Mini Album Tutorial with Melanie!!

When I saw the Simple Stories Journaling Elements in this month's pattern paper add on, I knew they would make a great 4x6 mini album. I wanted to make a mini album for my boys with photos from our recent family reunion. Since they are only 4 and 2 years old...I needed it to be a bit more sturdy so it would last more than 15 minutes :). I kept my embellishments to a minimum since I wanted it to be "flat" so I could laminate with my Xyron.

Step 1: Gather all supplies: Simple Stories Journaling Elements (if you didn't get the add-on, just cut six 4"x6" rectangles out of pattern paper or card stock for your "base") , photos (mine are mostly 2.5" x 3.25" or 3"x4.5" in size), left over Simple Stories pattern paper and stickers.

Step 2: Begin adhering photos to the Simple Stories Journaling Elements. I kept the embellishments to a minimum: stickers, stamps, and doodling. Since I wanted a few places to journal, I cut out 2 of the journal pieces from one of the pattern papers. I liked how they were a bit smaller than the 4x6 size, I think it made the mini more fun!

Step 3: Get your Xyron ready for some laminating fun :)

Step 4: Trim and punch hole for ring or use your Bind-it-all or Cinch if you are a lucky gal! I added ribbon around my ring...because I LOVE ribbon. Whoo hoo you are all done. Now just look through your mini and enjoy!

Sample pages: I had more pictures I wanted to include so I placed some behind the smaller journaling pages.

Thanks so much for looking! If you make a mini album, upload it to our gallery for all to see!
Have fun scrapping!!!

August Freaky Fast Page #1 and a WINNER!!

Good morning ladies!!! It's that time again...FREAKY FAST FRIDAY!!! Consider the following questions...

Are you in a rut?
Not feeling very creative or inspired these days?
Are you overwhelmed when you sit down to scrapbook?

If you answered yes to ANY of the questions, this just might be the answer to your problems...FREAKY FAST PAGES by me FRANCES!!

This concept actually came to me by necessity. As you may already know, I have 4 kiddos, and you can just imagine how many pics I have to scrapbook! And when Tammy asked me to join her team full time, I set a goal for myself to scrapbook every kit I get every month!! Why not, right? Well, life has a tendency to get in the way, and I sometimes found myself struggling to get my kits scrapbooked. So, at a time in need, I developed a formula to get my pics and kits scrapbooked...FREAKY FAST PAGES!!

This is actually the 2nd installment of Freaky Fast Pages. And if you are interested in July's formula, take a look HERE.

Let's get started...

I will be coming to you LIVE here on the TSR blog every week for the rest of the month, showing you how to create 3 different layouts using my formula! Let's begin with the formula...

1. Cardstock Background
2. 5 1/2 X 9 1/2 patterned paper
3. 2 1/2 X 10 patterned paper
4. 1 1/2 X 11 patterned paper
5. 1-2 1/2 inch diameter circle patterned paper
6. 1-5 inch diameter circle patterned paper

And here is the steps to completing LAYOUT #1 using the August formula...

1. Collect a few pics.
2. Cut your patterned paper to the dimensions stated above.
3. Push the paper around your cardstock till you achieve the look you want, or simply copy my layout below!
4. Adhere and EMBELLISH! It is that easy!!

Here is a look at my first FREAKY FAST PAGE...

Nothing but Handsome

This layout was created using My Mind's Eye Hattie from the August Kit and the placement of the paper came together so easy!! It is took me about 10 minutes to decide where I was going to place my patterned paper, crop and mat my photos, and stick it all down...NO KIDDING!!! And since I created this layout so quickly, I went ahead and went a little more detailed on the embellishing. I cut the flowers from the MME's Hattie Happy Bouquet paper from the August Patterned Paper Add-On. But all together, paper placing and embellishing, I completed this layout in 45 minutes...45 MINUTES!!!! That is quick!!!

I hope you enjoyed this week's installment of FREAKY FAST PAGES!!! Make sure and stop by Friday of next week for a new layout using the same formula. And let me just say that the layout you will see next week, will be completed in just about half of the time it took to complete this layout!!!! Yep, approximately 25 minutes...NO KIDDING!!

Last month I asked you to tell me what you thought about my new feature, and you sure did!!! Thanks for all of your great comments. And thanks for sharing some of your layouts, too!! The winner of last month's giveaway is...

BIG Congrats Julie, and I LOVE your layout!!! Please email Tammy at admin@scrap-room.com with your entire name, address, and the name of the contest you won. She will in turn, mail your prize to you.

Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to stop by next Friday for another layout using the same formula! And I'm feeling another GIVEWAY coming on...just sayin'! ;)
