Melanie Uses That Ruler!

Wow...it's almost back to school time! One school supply that I use for scrapbooking is the ruler. I love my clear 12 inch ruler (having it clear is a must for me). I use it for aligning photos, papers, and definitely my alphas. Here's how I like to make my titles....

1. Align alphabet stickers along top edge of ruler.

2. Place ruler over your layout. This allows you the flexibility of arranging your title without actually adhering it yet.

3.  Once you have it where you like it...simply press down on the top of your alphabet and then gently remove your ruler. Yay...it's straight and exactly where you want it.

School supplies are for grown ups too :)

Not much for a subliminal message, is it?  LOL  But seriously, this sketch is completely awesome and I made a page in less than hour with it (which is like a miracle for me, just so you know).  If you want to get more pages done (and who doesn't), check out this sketch:

Making Cards with a Layout Sketch

Did you see the great sketch Tammy created for National Scrapbook Day??? Even though it was designed for layouts...it is a perfect sketch for cards too. I used the left over bits from my May kit and made 3 Mother's Day Cards using the sketch. Now don't fret that it's past Mother's Day because you can make Birthday, Hello, or Thank You cards (or be really prepared for next year with Mother's Day cards) using your May kit and the NSD sketch.

Awesome NSD sketch:

Extra Embellishments?

What do you do with your extra embellishments from each month's kit???? Do you use every last one or maybe save a few for the "perfect" layout :) ????

I like to use most of mine because I know TSR will have more fabulous embellishments the next month. BUT there are a few I do hoard save for future projects.

I like to keep my saved embellishments in Making Memories plastic mason jars. I keep them in the cute little bags and just toss them in. I love how it is clear so I can see what I need. You can tell I am saving my wooden elements and enamel dots (LOVE them)...they are a perfect touch to add to many projects!

When I was creating an Anniversary card for my grandparents...I knew the cute wood veneer birds (Sept 2012 kit) would be perfect for the two love birds!

If you are a hoarder saver like me...don't forget to actually use those treasured embellishments!

The ScrapRoom Sketch for April... and Our March Winner!

Hey, can you cut a sort of squarish shape?  Like, maybe not even a square, but maybe just a rectangle because you got distracted by somebody yelling about a big white priority mail box that just landed on your porch?  (Yes, those kits are shipping soon!)  Either way... a square... a rectangle... or even just something sort of like that gets you *this close* to having our sketch done this month.  And if you feel like piling on the details and layers?  You can do that, too.  Enjoy - we did!

How Melanie Created Her Layout

I loved this month's Dear Lizzy line...especially the "Love You" paper. Here is a little step by step on how I created my layout this month.

Step 1: Gather all the lovely goodies up.

Step 2: I liked how I laid out my pattern paper in the picture above. So I copied this and created my background. I did cut the "Love You" paper out horizontally so you could read the words.

Step 3: I start arranging the pattern paper pieces onto the heart pattern paper. I did want one word of "punched out" journaling card to stand out. So I placed a piece of the striped pattern paper behind the word "heart".  I also added some chevron arrows along the right side of the layout.

Step 4: Then I placed my photo on top of the pattern paper pieces (I forgot to take a picture of this). Next came time to use all the lovely embellishments included in the FOTM and embellishment kits.
Washi, chipboard butterfly, enamel dot
Chipboard arrows
Fabric tag and chipboard heart
Step 5: My finished layout:

I hope you liked this little step by step on how I created my layout!
