    DT Inspiration with Jenny!!

    Hey Scrappers!

Ever been clothes shopping somewhere and thought to yourself, "Wow...that would be so cute on a scrapbook page!"? Happens to me ALL.THE.TIME! Sometimes it'll be the whole article of clothing that inspires me...sometimes, just the color scheme...sometimes, maybe an element or two from the design on the clothing.

I was online shopping at Oldnavy.com the other day and came across this cute little girl's shirt:

I immediately thought of the adorable layered butterfly embellishment I received in my ScrapRoom kit with the Little Yellow Bicycle "Twig" collection. I knew I had to use the inspiration I felt from that little shirt to make something scrappy! So, I created this card:

I loved all the different patterns on the butterflies on the t-shirt, so I simply used the layered butterfly embellishment included in the kit, traced it onto both the A side and the B side of all the papers included in the Twig collection, and cut them all out. Now, you could very easily just use a butterfly punch to get the same effect, but I have two little boys....no butterfly punches in this scrapper's stash! ;)

I created 3 rows of butterflies, just like the t-shirt has. I used one Glue Dot right in the center of each butterfly to adhere it to the card. This way, I could fold up the wings of the butterflies a bit to give them some dimension and make them seem like they were "flying" off the card a bit. I also liked that the shirt had words printed on some of the butterflies, so I used a little rub-on sentiment from my stash and added it to the bottom right butterfly.

So, the next time you are out clothes shopping, soak in all of the inspiration that fashion designers have come up with for us...it can be super useful for our layouts and cards as well! Who knows...maybe you already have a favorite shirt or pair of shoes that will inspire you on your next scrappy creation! :)

    Another March Challenge!

Aside from sketches, I LOVE to scraplift!! I love searching through tons of pretty layouts, and finding just one that tickles my fancy. Once I find it, I then begin to dissect the layout and figure out just what it is I like and don't like about. I scratch the stuff I don't like and add the things I do to my own work of art! And I really get satisfaction when I can look at my layout and just see glimpses of the scraplifted layout. Basically, I made it my own!

So, surprise, surprise, your challenge is to scraplift a layout from the Design Team gallery!! Here is a look at a few examples...

Scraplifted Layout--Music to My Ears by Frances, Nov 2010

NEW Layout--My Beach Babes by Aphra

You can certainly look at Aphra's layout, and see that the placement of of the pictures and patterned paper are similar. To make it her own, Aphra moved the title work to the left-hand side, which in turn she added an additional embellishment cluster to the right-hand side to give her layout balance!

Scraplifted Layout--Karate Kids by Lan, Nov 2010

    NEW Layout--Love Story by Frances

Again, placement of the photos and patterned paper are essentially the same, but the location of the embellishments and title are different. I moved the title to the top of the patterned paper instead of the side, and instead of the embellishments going across the bottom of the picture, I arranged them in a cluster in the bottom right-hand corner.

If you would like to try your hand at this month's additional challenge, leave a comment IN THIS POST with a link to your layout by Wednesday, March 30th. Make sure you identify which layout from the DT gallery you lifted! Your name will then be entered into a random drawing to win a $5 gift cert to our TSR Store!!!!

    Happy Wednesday and get scrapping!!

Yep, we have like our own little secret society here at TSR...OOOoooooooooo! We have a secret password, handshake, and a boo-tay dance...ok, maybe the handshake and dance is taking it a bit far, but we do have a secret password.

FYI a Recipe Card is a "card" with a double-page layout and the directions to re-create the layout being featured. These directions are detailed...with dimensions and exact placement. So, basically when you sign up with TSR you get a gallery FULL of inspiration, and like that is not enough, we give you secret access to 6 additional layouts and full detailed directions!!!

    Aphra's Tiny Notepad

Hello my scrappy friends! Aphra here today to share with you how to make this sweet little notepad with your March kit and a few items from your stash.

Here's what you'll need to get started: 4" x 8" strip of black cardstock, 2 sheets of white cardstock, For the Record paper scraps, For the Record sticker sheet leftovers, border punch, butterfly punch, and binding rings or some other type binding (I used my Bind-It-All with a 1" red ring).

Step One--constructing the book. I cut two 4" x 4" squares of black cardstock for the front and back covers and eighteen 4" x 4" squares of white cardstock for the pages. Then, I used my Bind-It-All to bind them. If you don't have that machine, you could use binding rings or eyelets and ribbon.

Step Two--decorating the cover. Anytime I make a mini album (or in this case, mini notebook), I put a lot of detail into the cover. That's the part I'll see and enjoy the most. Then I use a pretty simple scheme for the inside. So that's what I've done here. I used a 3.75" x 3.75" scrap of Echo Park For the Record paper for my base. Then I cut a 2" x 12" strip of paper, border punched it (Martha Stewart Doilie punch), and then scrunched it up and stuck it down to create a ruffle. I added a .75" strip of paper and a leftover border sticker on top of the ruffle. Then, I added a few label stickers and a double punched butterfly with a little pearl in the center. Three different ribbons tied to the binding was the final touch.

Step Three--decorating the interior pages. As you can see, each interior page has a sticker or two plopped down in the corner. Just enough to add a little color and help me use up the rest of those cute Echo Park stickers that came in my kit. Cute and easy!

Hope you've liked my little tutorial today! And if you make a mini notepad, I would sure LOVE to see it. You can post it over at the Facebook page for us all to enjoy. Thanks! See ya soon.

    DT Inspiration with Melanie!!

Ready for my little tutorial on making a mini album with this month's kit? It's a bit long and full of pictures....so, you might want to grab a snack. :)

When I received The ScrapRoom kit this month and saw Echo Park's For the Record line with TWO sticker sheets and the Bella Blvd Tall Tags, I knew it would make a great mini album for my grandparents. They are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary next week, and I was excited to make this mini for them!

    Let's get started...

To start: I gathered all of my supplies (Seriously...check out all of the fab stuff still in my kit after I made 4 layouts!).

Sorry about the flash in this photo....I'm a night scrapper.

I made my own mini album by using 8x8 acid free chipboard (you could use any type of chipboard, cereal boxes, or cardstock as a base). I cut my chipboard to (6) 4"x6".

To keep my album consistent I cut (12) 4"x6" and (6) 0.5"x6"pieces of Echo Park For the Record pattern paper plus (6) 2"x6" Bella Blvd Tall Tags.

    Album Cover Supplies:
    (1) 4"x6"Echo Park paper, (1) 0.5"x6 Echo Park paper, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (1) 2.5"x2" photo, and the fab Petaloo flower and leaf stick pins from our kit, and Alphabet stickers for title.

    Pages 1 & 2:
    (2) 4"x6" Echo Park papers, (1) 0.5"x6 Echo Park paper, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (2) 2.5"x2" (1) 3.5"x3" photos, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

    Pages 3 & 4:
    (2) 4"x6" Echo Park papers, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (1) 2.5"x2" (1) 3"x3" photos, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

    Pages 5 & 6:
    (2) 4"x6" Echo Park papers, (2) 0.5"x6 Echo Park papers, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (1) 3"x2.25" (1) 2.25"x3" photos, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

    Pages 7 & 8:
    (2) 4"x6" Echo Park papers, (1) 0.5"x6 Echo Park paper, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (1) 3"x3" (1) 3"x2.5" photos, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

    Pages 9 & 10:
    (2) 4"x6" Echo Park papers, (1) 0.5"x6 Echo Park paper, (1) Bella Blvd Tall Tag, (1) 2.5"x3" (1) 3"x3" photos, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

    Back Page:
    (1) 4"x6" Echo Park paper, (1) 2.75"x4" Echo Park journal paper, and Echo Park embellishment stickers.

To bind my album I used binder rings that I picked up from the office supply store. The ribbon came from my stash. Excluding the rings and ribbon, this entire mini album can be made with the TSR March kit and add-ons.

After I add photos from the party, I will add a few more stickers and labels.

Tammy seriously loaded March's kit: I was able to make 4 single page layouts, 1 double layout, a candy jar, and a mini album. Plus I still have some left over!!

Thanks for looking! I hope you enjoyed it. If you make a mini album, be sure to upload it to the TSR gallery or facebook page!
